Existing Projects

We are working on pilots and projects in Sri Lanka, USA and the UK across both industrial and artisanal biochar pathways.

Udukawa, Sri Lanka

SBB’s first pilot and blueprint project processing cinnamon wood into high-quality, optimised biochar to supplement biofertiliser. A mechanised batch procesing system will be employed, featuring the launch of SBB’s novel, cutting-edge pyrolyser, the NOVA-1. At full capacity the project will process 3,300 tons of waste wood into 1,320 tons of high-quality biochar and ~3,000 CO₂ removal credits annually.

Gonnoruwa, Sri Lanka

This artisanal project is working directly with over 500 small-scale, rural farmers in the Hambantota region to reclaim farmland from encroaching, invasive Prosopis Juliflora.  The project will process waste biomass into biochar, subsequently returning the char to each farmer to regenerate over 1000 acres of farmland, mitigate climate risks in the drought-prone region and redirect climate finance toward those most at-risk of impacts. At scale, this project will deliver >1500CO₂ removal credits annually.

How to get engaged?

If you are a waste producing organisation with a large quantity of low-value waste biomass, we are interested in talking to you about future project partnerships.
